Oculomotor Nuclei (Advanced)
In this tutorial, we will learn the neuroanatomy of the oculomotor complex and the perioculomotor cell group. Key structures/terms: ventral subnucleus, intermediate subnucleus, dorsal subnucleus, medial subnucleus, caudal subnucleus, medial rectus, inferior oblique, inferior rectus, lateral rectus, superior rectus, levator palpebrae, visceral nuclei. Edinger-Westphal nucleus; anteromedian nucleus; nucleus of Perlia; accommodation reflex (or near-response) is a three-part reflex that brings near objects into focus through lens thickening, pupillary constriction, and inward rotation of the eyes: eye convergence; preganglionic perioculomotor cell group; motoneuron division of the perioculomotor cell group -- multiply innervated muscle fibers.
