Cerebral White Matter Overview

In this tutorial, we will learn the neuroanatomical organization of white matter, based on the organization laid out in the 2006 white matter textbook, Fiber Pathways of the Brain. Key structures/terms: association fibers, cord fibers, striatal fibers, short association fiber (aka U-fiber or arcuate bundle), neighborhood association fiber, long association fiber, the Muratoff bundle (aka subcallosal fasciculus), the external capsule, commissural fiber bundle, subcortical fiber bundle, anterior commissure, corpus callosum; thalamic bundle (ie, the corticopetal pathway); the pontine bundle (ie, the corticofugal (corticonuclear and corticospinal), fronto-, parieto-, temporo-, and occipitopontine fibers); centrum semiovale, corona radiata.
